The North Face ® Transgrancanaria Training Camp

The North Face® athlete, Zigor Iturrieta, talked about his experiences as a trail runner in the world’s toughest races. The Training Camp, organized by Arista, is aimed at preparing the runners of this Ultra trail race which will be held on March 2nd 2013.

Once again this year, the best specialists in mountain races came to Gran Canaria to give talks at The North Face ® Transgrancanaria Training Camp. On this occasion the Spaniard Zigor Iturrieta shared his extensive knowledge of mountain races.

The Training Camp took place at Garañón Camp facilities from 12th – 13th January 2013. This initiative brought runners, for the second consecutive year, the theoretical and practical knowledge needed to cope with a mountain race of such magnitude as The North Face ® Transgrancanaria. The race offers different modalities, giving the oportunity to practice ultra trail at diferents levels of difficulty: Starter (24 kilometres), Marathon (42 kilometres), Advance (83 kilometres) and Transgrancanaria (119 kilometres).

For Fernando Gonzalez, director of The North Face ® Transgrancanaria, “this Training Camp has been an unforgettable experience for all. The participants have gained important knowledge to run in a tough mountain race such as the Transgrancanaria “.

Gonzalez said that “Zigor Iturrieta shared not only his experiences, but also his camaraderie in the mountain, and his sympathy with all the riders.”

Zigor Iturrieta said that “the island is a fun fair for this sport. The natural environment is amazing”. He also emphasised that “participants are eager to learn and enjoy the mountains with a lot of camaraderie.”

Experts talked about issues of great importance for the runners such as techniques for using sticks in the race, techniques of running trails, psychological factors, night racing and ergonomics
All the knowledge gained during these days will be very useful for all attendees, especially for those who participate on March 2nd and 3rd in The North Face ® Transgrancanaria. Thanks to the help and experience of experts such as Zigor Iturrieta runners may avoid physical injury caused by the physical effort made during training and competitions.
