Waltzer

LAS RAMBLAS GOLF SOCIETY

We started the week off with a “Waltzer” which was won with a score of 88 pts by the ” Dream ” team of Rod Doel, Norman Page, Lindsay Forbes & Yvonne Phipps.

We woke up to rain on Wednesday morning and a few of us chickened out. However those who went up to the course were rewarded as the clouds cleared away and everyone had a pleasant round in glorious sunshine. Round of the day came from Liz Robertson who came in with a superb 40 pts. to just pip the very good 39 pts. posted by John Collins. The full results were:

Cat1. 1. Liz Robertson 40 pts, 2. John Collins 39 pts, 3. Ron Phipps 37 pts.

Cat2. 1. Geoff Biggerstaff 36 pts, 2. Joyce McClusky 34 pts, 3. Roger Tunstall 32 pts.

2s Club. Liz Robertson, John Collins & Brian Dent.

Las Ramblas commenced their annual ‘blitz’ on the greens on Thursday in advance of the high season. Therefore temporary greens were all that was available from Thursday through to a week on Monday which meant that most of us will not play until then. However our organisor Dee Biggerstaff got us onto La Finca on Friday and Vistabella next Wednesday. Friday’s competition at la Finca was a Singles Stableford. The results were as follows:

Cat1. 1. Barbara Hitchings 36 pts, 2. Ken Robertson 33 pts, 3. Pete Dunn 30 pts.

Cat2. 1. Mike Mahony 35 pts, 2. Geoff Biggerstaff 34 pts, 3. Donna Campbell 33 pts.

2s Club. Geoff Biggerstaff & Phil Herrington.

Doug Wright.

LAS RAMBLAS GOLF SOCIETY – REPORT DATED 12TH JULY

The runners up

As Doug is on his holidays he has passed the pen to me to make something up from our golfing week.

Monday’s “Waltzer”was won with a fine score of 87 [which included six 4 pointers!] by the team featuring – karaoke star Rod Doel, Mike Bretnall, Norman Page and Ann Marie Weisheit.

Wednesday’s stableford saw some very consistent scoring with over half the field firmly in the buffer zone. There were two exceptions with our two lowest handicap members both scoring a superb 40 pts. The full results were–
1st class 1- Lindsay Forbes 40 pts [c/b] 2 Phil Herrington 40pts 3 Dave Pulling 36 pts

2nd class 1-Joyce McCluskey 37 pts 2 Ann Marie Weisheit 36 pts [c/b] 3 Allen McCluskey 36 pts
[ note no comments from me about sandbagging !]

Ken Robertson, who played exceptional golf to beat his better half, Liz,in the Summer Singles, lifted the two’s pot, with surprisingly, the only two of the day.

Friday saw the members play a Texas scramble, which was won by the inform Ken, Liz and Joyce.[first names reserved only for stars!!] meanwhile…..

Captain Bretnall led his Vega Baja Premier League team to El Valle where the long awaited head to head final league match against league leaders Club 25 Serrena took place.

Unfortunately for us, giving shots in all 4 matches, proved to be too much for us and Club 25 Serenna deservedly won the title.

Well done to them and thanks to all their players for a match played in the true spirit of golf. Special mention to my partner,Nick and our opponents -Barry and Martin-well played. Special mention also to Lindsay Forbes and Geoff Biggerstaff, our only winners on the day, and of course, to Ivie Davies and Ron Nicholson for all their hard work. –Many Thanks from all at Las Ramblas.

Tom Hardie

LAS RAMBLAS GS

LAS RAMBLAS GS

We started the week off with a 6x6x6 team Stableford. The winners with a very good score of 88 pts. were Joe Rothery, Terry Field, John Collins & Yvonne Phipps. Shot of the day has to go to my son Andrew playing as a guest who sent his second shot on the first with an 8 iron soaring over the trees to within 10 feet of the pin. Unfortunately the pin was on the 8th green a 100 metres to the left of the first! Never been seen before!

It was the first of our ‘majors’ on Wednesday when we played for the Caja Murcia Trophy which is a singles Stableford competition. As usual, when a trophy appears, the bandits come out of the cupboard and scoring was very good with 6 golfers beating the par of 36 pts. The number one bandit was Roy Hitchings who shone with a magnificent score of 41 pts. and the photograph attached shows him collecting his trophy from President John Wheeler. We all gathered on Thursday for a presentation lunch at Manuel’s in the Filton Centre in Los Balcones where we enjoyed a good afternoon and an excellent lunch. Thanks to Barry Holtham for superbly putting everything together which goes a long way to disproving the rumour that “our Barry” could not organise a p*** up in a brewery. The full results were:

1. Roy Hitchings 41 pts, 2. Mike Chapman 38 pts(c/b), 3. Mick Brentnall 38 pts, Brian Townend 37 pts.

Nearest the Pin. 6th. Neil Robotham, 10th. Carol Wheeler, 12th. Ron Phipps, 14th. Nick Campbell.

Nearest the Pin in 2 on 15th. John Wheeler.

2s Club. Nick Campbell, Pete Dunn, Norman Page & Brian Townend.

On Friday we played a ‘Waltzer’ which was won with a score of 87 pts. by the team of Ron Phipps, Brian Dent, Norman Page & ‘Albert’.
